Odd Taxi Fes 2022 - Event Report Translation
Odd Taxi Fes was held on June 18th, 2022. There was an afternoon event and an evening event with musical acts and cast members discussing the characters and doing a skit written by Konomoto Kazuya (head series writer). As it seems we're not getting a release of the full script, much less a recording, I thought I'd document the summary so it's available somewhere in English.
The full report by Mixi User (id:429476) includes the reporter's thoughts and insights into the event, I'm just translating their summaries and dialogue. The reporter went to the evening event, of the two, and it was about 90 minutes total.
At the event were:
Iida Riho (Shirakawa)
Koizumi Moeka (Ichimura)
Murakami Manatsu ("Mitsuya Yuki"/Wadagaki Sakura)
Kousei and Asei of Miki (Daimon Brothers; Older and Younger, respectively -- only at the evening event)
Yuusuke and Tsuda Asahiro of Daian (Homosapiens; Shibagaki and Baba respectively)
Takashi of Trendy Angel (Kabasawa)
Murakami Tomoko or Morisanchuu (Taeko)
Phenix and Takai Keisuke of Girly Record (Bonnou Illumination: Kondou Shigeyuki/Cheetah and Fukumoto Daiichi/Panda respectively)
Sakai Koudai (Imai)
Horii Chado (Sekiguchi)
Meteor (Yano)
Special Guest Mukai Seitarou, who is an entertainer and seiyuu who had MCed a few radio events about the series. He does the Karaage shopkeep in the Shooting Star Skit.
Musical guests:
Skirt and Punpee who did the opening theme,
Tony Frank who did the insert song/ending about Manzai,
VaVa, and OMSB whom I don't know the relevance of to the series.
The MC was Inoue Yusuke of Non Style (a comedy duo with seiyuu Ishida Akira, also not related to Odd Taxi) who also doesn't seem to have direct relevance to the series. (The earlier event was MCed by comedy due New York, also with no direct tie to the series)
Introduction
The cast introduce themselves with a famous line and their character name.
"'Odokawa-san, do you have somebody you like?' Shirakawa's actress, Iida Riho!"
"'Master Kyoujin's callin' for you, Shibagaki's actor Daian's Yuusuke."
Tsuda answers with: "Did something happen with Master Kyoujin?" and is tsukkomi'd by the MC saying "That's not Baba, that's Daian's Tsuda. It's just plain Daian Tsuda!"
(Kyoujin is an older, famous entertainer/comedian who has worked and had incidents with Daian in the past; given his fame and length of his career, that's most comedians in the business, it seems.)
Murakami Tomoko (Taeko) introducers herself saying "I'm thinking of starting up Uber Eats" and is tsukkomied with "You're not a shop that does food that can be Ubered!"
The Daimon Brothers' Miki do a bit that isn't quoted in the report, but Kabusawa's Takashi cuts in with "Time Over."
Meteor/Yano raps but it isn't quoted.
Chado/Sekiguchi introduces himself with "I have Yano-san at my side!"
Koizumi/Ichimura introduces herself with "You're the same, didn't you lie to me? So shut up, you poor scrub!"
Sakai/Imai's was "Odokawa-sama~"
Girly Record did an impression of Yamamoto saying "It's going good for Mystery Kiss right now."
Manatsu/Sakura greeeted with "Yamamoto-san, where's my Karaage?"
Reciting Script: "Wish Upon A Star"
A meteor shower was going to be visible that night.
Taeko, Imai and Shirakawa are at Yamabiko. Taeko offers Imai a spinach Shirae salad (salad with tofu and white miso). It turns out it's a recipe of her deceased mother's. However, Imai doesn't really like Natto... Taeko mentions being a fan of Inoue of NonStyle and turns to the TV.
On TV, there's a comedy event where they're supposed to praise each other comedically, with Homosapians facing off Bonnou Illunination. Despite trying to be a good natured, positive praising theme, Shibagaki comes in with: "Bonnou Illumination says they're breaking the conventions, but they're just doing whatever they think is funny. Then calling it a brand new style of comedy. The two of them also get along real well, kinda has hints of BL? Not that there's anything wrong with that."
(*BL, Boy's Love, works about gay guys which appeal to a female audience who's into that.)
Bonnou fires back with "Homosapiens say that they're classic and staying true to tradition, but they're just dated. They just aren't aware of how dated it is. Not that there's anything wrong with that."
In the end, Bonnou Illumination wins and Baba has to go out and do a report on the meteor shower viewing.
Kabasawa is doing a livesream in Kabukichou and comes across Tony Frank performing a guitar and live singing cover of Moritaka Chisato's Watare Bridge (Tony Frank's rendition can be heard here). Kabasawa says to his own audience: "How much can you make like that? Everyone, please send in your Super Chats! Quit with this public minstral thing, find a smarter way to make money!"
Kabasawa's livestream walk through town takes him to Karaage Kou, where he interrupts the shopkeep and Sakura who are talking to say "There are other Karaage shops, you know. The Karaage here has bad reviews."
Wadagaki replies: "I trust my own instincts. Going just by the numbers, that's so stupid."
Kabasawa insists that "the numbers are everything" and continues with his report, which makes the shopkeep tell him he's in the way of business and to get out. Kabasawa orders one hundred orders of karaage, which he gloats makes him a customer, so he can stay. Yano arrives alone since he went ahead on his kickboard, which means it takes Sekiguchi some time to catch up. Kabasawa takes a rude attitude with him, saying "Some shorty in a suit just showed up. And after him... Definitely someone in organized crime."
The reporter muses that Yano probably doesn't care about being shit-talked because Sekiguchi hasn't arrived yet but will eventually beat him up for him, but the report isn't clear how much of that is conjecture and how much of that is in the script blatantly.
Since Kabasawa just put in a hundred orders, it's going to take a while. Wadagaki is still annoyed with Kabasawa and insists he could just give two orders away and save himself the trouble, but Sekiguchi snaps on Kabasawa telling him they're going to buy up the 100 orders themselves, and dares him to complain. Kabasawa is terrified and his live stream is shut down by Sekiguchi. Kabasawa says: "Even I was really scared. That I'd lose my popularity, that people would stop paying attention to me. It's scary..."
The Daimon brothers are going to a ramen shop. While the younger brother had wanted tonkatsu, the older brother got his way, though when they arrive it's long been closed down. The ramen shop is actually a memorable place for them as they had gone there with their parents when they were children. The older brother has a monologue: "Even though we were told to split one bowl, you insisted you'd eat a whole portion yourself. As expected, you couldn't finish it and broke out crying. I was forced to eat a whole serving myself. Listen, Little Brother. As of now, we're our only flesh and blood. The hard times, the good times, we're each doing halves of them all. Let's go get tonkatsu."
Ichimura is at home doing a livestream but doesn't have many viewers. "Can an idol really sell anything wearing a mask? I don't have any confidence left... The other day, a delivery man came. He said 'Delivery'." This phrase can also mean 'luggage' as in 'dead weight', and as Japanese often lacks a subject (such as 'I have' or 'this is') it can be heard as 'you are', as in 'you are dead weight.' You are being carried. "Of course, he was talking about the package, but I thought, that's me, too..."
Then she sees a comment by Cabaclub waiter Imai saying "If you just keep working hard like you are now it'll be alright." It perks her up some.
Taeko is watching Kabasawa's livestream and muses: "It'd be nice if Kabasawa would just die," as she sets out to see the meteor shower.
Baba is in Kabukichou and remarks it's too bright to see anything and gets yelled at by Shibagaki.
At the karaage shop, the shopkeep says he's thinking of giving up. But Wadagaki cheers him up, saying. "Oji-san, look at me. Keep your eyes on me, because soon, I'm gonna be on TV and all kinds of places!" He agrees she'll be able to become famous. She leaves saying "Oji-san, the karaage was delicious!"
The shooting stars begin. Tony Frank plays just the guitar instrumental of Watare Bridge as everyone says their wishes:
Shirakawa: I pray Odokoawa-san is happy.
Taeko: I pray I can make spinach shirae as well as my mother did.
Imai: I pray Nikaidou Rui sells a lot.
Kabaswa: I pray to be acknowledged by people.
Yano: I pray Dobu-san dies!--No, I can't, he can't die!!
Sekiguchi: I pray that Yano-san's wish comes true.
Daimon Younger: I pray that all the bad people are gone.
Daimon Older: I pray to return to before that accident.
Ichimura: I pray that I can work as an idol without a mask.
Wadagaki: Even without wishing on a star, I'll do something about it myself, so it's okay.
(The reporter forgot Shibagaki's and Bannou Illumination's.)
Shibagaki: You're up, Baba. You're the last act, the last laugh!
Baba: Uhhhm, Uhhhh, I pray for world peace!
Shibagaki: What's funny about that?!
Odd Taxi Debates
The cast debate two topics: "Who would you want to work under" and "Which girl is worse?"
For round one, Asei (Younger Daimon), Girly Record (Bonnou Illumination) and Sakai (Imai) take Dobu's side, Meteor (Yano), Chado (Sekiguchi) and Kousek (Older Daimon) take Yano's side.
Chado/Sekiguchi starts out with. "It's Yano? How can it be anyone but Yano?" to which someone tsukkomis "Isn't that the role talking? What about the person playing him?"
Kousei insists, "Naa, little brother. He is an evil guy." but Asei responds "Your side's evil too!"
Meteor points out that "Sekiguchi got done in by Dobu-san, didn't he? But at that time, instead of being mad, Yano said 'You don't have the experience to beat Dobu-san.' for him."
Chado/Sekiguchi declares Yano is magnanimous and doesn't sweat the little things.
Girly Record said "But in the end didn't Yano get outwitted by him? But still, Dobu got done in by Odokawa. He didn't even notice his picture being taken. Is he stupid?"
Meteor said: "When Yano worked under Dobu, Dobu didn't pay him a salary. He paid him in chocolate pies and snacks," though he was chided as being unfair for using a point that was added to canon in something he wrote (the 2019 album, Dobu no Aniki).
In the end, Team Yano won the debate.
For round two, the debate was about who was the worst girl between Ichimura and Shirakawa.
Tsuda (Baba) opened with "Shirakawa-san was dating Dobu!" to which Yuusuke (Shibagaki) replied "Nah, that's fine. Who cares who she dates." They descended into a discussion about whether or not Tsuda was picking on something trivial.
Murakami (Wadagaki) brought up that Ichimura had been a gold digger playing a badger game. Koizumi replied that she was made to do so. When Murakami went on to also note that Shirakawa lied very easily and naturally to Odokawa, Koizumi agreed eagerly. "Right? What the hell, asking 'do you have someone you like?' and handing over the phone with the front camera out! And then, doing Capoeira!" and the topic became Capoeira for a while before coming back on topic when Iida (Shirakawa) said that Shirakawa had been lying because Dobu told her to, too. Tsuda and Yuusuke debated whether she could refuse him or not.
In the end, Shirakawa won worst girl.
