I wonder about Toshio and Ritsuko. Or rather, I don't actually think anything is meant to be going on, but it would please me if it were or if there were actually anything to wonder about. Sadly, I know Ritsuko deserves better... She really is the type of girl to just make the doctor some sandwiches while he's working overtime without any strings attached. Granted, who could expect his wife to make him dinner when he's spending the night with another man whose company he clearly prefers... But Ritsuko will still at least try to get him to take his feet of the table, and keep him from drinking beer during office hours. She's a vision of loveliness, neither being a pushover or too docile. She takes Natsuno's dismissive attitude without so much as a blink, genuinely fond of and worried about him. She loves her mother and boyfriend but ultimately refuses to cave to pressure to wed for their sake. She has a real knack with people without seeming glib. Anime Tohru has impeccable tastes (novel Tohru isn't really aware of her existence at this point).
