Completely loveless is the impression I ultimately get, though I *like* the idea of it being at least mutually friendly, I suspect seeing it even that warmly is just my love of twisted relationships. Ideally they could bond over how much they hate his mom and riling her up like siblings or something, but I suspect that more often than not he'd rather just not give his mom anything to go off on than put up with her reactions.
